Research Interests
My research interests include conceptualization and measurement of pain and
quality of life (QOL) of animals, and development of psychometric questionnaire
instruments for such measurement purposes. As part of the University’s
multidisciplinary Pain and Welfare Research Group I have developed instruments
for the measurement of canine chronic pain and health-related quality of life
(HRQL) using the dog owner as respondent. Using similar approaches I have recently
developed an instrument to measure HRQL of farmed pigs, using the farmer or
stockperson as respondent. I also have an interest in the measurement and
development of ethical reasoning skills in vet students.
I previously worked in educational publishing and remain keenly interested
in both publishing and education.
I am currently self-employed, and engaged in a variety of projects spanning
this range of interests.
