After completing my first degree in Mathematics and Statistics (Joint Honours) at the University of Glasgow in 2003 I stayed on at Glasgow to carry out a PhD in Statistics as part of a four year Teaching Assistant post in the Department of Statistics. In January 2007 I started as a full-time Lecturer within the department and I completed my PhD in May 2007. I was Head of Statistics from January 2019 until July 2022. I am currently Professor of Statistics in the School of Mathematics and Statistics.

My main research interests are in developing statistical methodology and data analytics approaches predominantly for current challenges arising in environmental applications. Approaches include: nonparametric/additive modelling and varying-coefficient models, functional data analysis, functional clustering, network design and data fusion. I currently supervise 1 PDRA and 8 PhD students.

A short video advertising some of the work in our group is available here: Net Zero: Data Analytics

I am currently a lead investigator as part of a NERC strategic programme grant GALLANT, led by Jaime Toney at University of Glasgow. Along with colleagues in Maths & Stats, Urban Big Data Centre and Geographical & Earth Sciences we lead a team of researchers working closely with colleagues across GALLANT and Glasgow City Council to create a world leading innovative data platform for researchers, policy makers and the community.

I am the president for The International Environmetrics Society TIES, an associate Editor for the Journal Environmetrics, an elected member of the International Statistical Institute and a member of the Environmetral Statistics Section of the Royal Statistical Society. I was an elected member of the RSE Young Academy of Scotland from 2016 until 2022, YAS, and an elected member of the Royal Statistical Society council from 2019-2022.

I was the secretary of the The International Environmetrics Society from 2017-2021 and secretary of the Statistical Modelling Society from January 2011-December 2014. The IWSM is an annual international workshop to promote and develop the use of statistical modelling in research and applications. The society also has a journal: Statistical Modelling.

Full details of my publications are provided in the links on the left of the page.
